Life is on Your Side

The victim perspective says that life is happening to me. With this perspective, I assume a defensive posture--a duck and cover reaction to life. It has me looking outside of myself for answers, justifications, validation and safety. Down the victim road I end up feeling powerless, angry and resentful which is a very unproductive state of being.

When I take responsibility and believe that life happens through me, I become an active, empowered participant. I respond as a co-creator. I draw upon my inner resources, looking within instead of without. I still may feel angry, but I can use that anger to empower and change my life. Challenging circumstances serve to strengthen my character and give me opportunities to push up against old beliefs and limitations. My perception of myself evolves with confidence and wisdom. From this perspective, I view challenging people in my life as teachers rather than villains. I feed the love rather than the fear.

It is important to know that we are never alone. We have a spiritual entourage willing to love and support us along the way. Meditation and prayer are valuable tools in connecting to our spiritual support system. Remember to ask for help and take some time to listen. The Universe is always listening and responding. We live in a beneficent Universe that is constantly conspiring on our behalf. Let that be your mantra and watch your world change.
