Togetherness
Ever feel like a drop of water responsible for directing an entire stream? That's a good description of how I was feeling--alone and fully responsible for every decision that had to be made during these last few stressful and challenging months.
Thankfully, my friends and clients reminded me through their frequent connection that I was not alone. I felt their concern and their love. I also tapped into a different kind of support system. I became deeply conscious of all the people in my past whose stories were similar to mine--those who had experienced the challenges of taking care of an elderly parent. I had retroactive empathy. Plugged into a network of wisdom and collective support, I felt the strength of sharing common ground. I became aware of and experienced the inter-connected web that I hear so much about in my channeling sessions. The reality of unified consciousness was brought home into my heart.
As I see it, we are all in this earthy experience together. There is a collective wisdom gained through common experiences. Just as cells come together to form a body, so too do we all come together to form the body of humanity. Our thoughts, words and actions in life determine the contribution we make to this collective consciousness. As we take responsibility for our response to life's challenges, recognizing our inner strengths and empowering perceived places of lack, we strengthen everyone. As we heal, so does the world.
I am reminded of a story that helped me after my mom transitioned: Gautama Buddha told the story of the grieving mother, Kisa Gotami, and the mustard seed. When this mother loses her only son, she takes his body to the Buddha to find a cure. The Buddha asks her to bring a handful of mustard seeds from a family that has never lost a child, husband, parent or friend. When the mother is unable to find such a house in her village, she realizes that death is common to all; and she cannot be selfish or alone in her grief.
Even though Gautama's story is about grief, I think we can apply this moral to all of life's challenges. There is support and wisdom threaded through every experience. We can trust life and open to it or not. Either way we send ripples through the collective web. The choice is ours and that can be truly inspiring and empowering.
I am loved and supported through every experience
